Does Christian Growth Ever Make You Want to Scream?

I’ll go ahead and let the super spiritual people go ahead and talk about how easy the Christian life is and that they have never had any “growing pains” for Jesus. Now for the rest of us that are a little more honest, Christian Growth can be painful. Have you ever tried to do a strenuous workout? I know you won’t believe it, but I have. You always hear the statement “No pain, no gain”. The same applies in the Christian life.

I was reminded of this today when my wife and I were on the phone discussing some things. She drives me crazy when her faith is stronger than mine, but she said something that made me have to stop and talk to God about how much spiritual growth in a particular area hurts. This particular area happens to be finances. I know I have to stretch. I am totally understanding what Jesus was talking about when He said the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. The Spirit part of me wants to embrace the growth while the fleshly side of me is screaming. 😫

Many people never grow because they don’t want the pain that goes with it. They want an easy luxury liner to Heaven when living for Jesus is often like walking across a long bed of hot coals. Don’t be the one who plays it safe and lives with regret because you know you should have done more for Jesus. Be the one who has been through the fire and come out with your hands raised toward Heaven in praise and adoration for the One who used you to bring people to Him and take risks for the glory of God. It hurt when you took those early steps, but courage rose up within you. You may be screaming now, but that scream will turn into a shout of victory as you grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!<<<<<<

Author: Matthew Winters (The Comeback Pastor)

Born and raised in Portsmouth, VA, I eventually landed in upstate SC because when God calls I move. I gave my life to Christ in 1987 and surrendered to the call to ministry in 1997. I am a three-time graduate from Liberty University and Theological Seminary: BS in Religion (2003), the MA in Religion (Leadership concentration - 2006), and the Master of Divinity (Pastoral Ministries - 2013). I have served as a worship leader and senior pastor in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia since 1996. After experiencing a divorce, God graciously gave me my wife, Jennifer, whom I married in September 2015. Between the two of us, we have 6 children. I am the Lead/Founding Pastor of Overcomers Church in Walhalla, SC, a church plant that is helping those who have been overcome by life to become Overcomers in Christ. Jennifer and I both love people and long to see them enter into a relationship with Christ and walk in the power of His Spirit. I pray that these thoughts I share will challenge and inspire you to greater heights and deeper depths for the glory of Christ.
