Can You Wait a Minute (or Several Billion)?

Thanks to Diana Ross, we know we can’t hurry love. What about job opportunities? What about family reconciliation? Physical healing? If we’re honest, we know we can’t hurry a thing. Our nature is not one that likes to wait.

Within the last week or so, I watched Steven Furtick, Pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC interview Bishop T. D. Jakes about his new book Soar. You can agree or disagree with either pastor and their theology, but there were some issues of substance within the interview. I believe that we can glean nuggets of truth from anyone. If God Used a donkey in the book of Numbers to speak, God can use whatever He wills. Back to my main point. Bishop Jakes talked about how he did not immediately produce successful Christian movies. He and his wife started out writing plays and sunk almost all of their money into them with no gain. He said that those plays became more as he stumbled across opportunities. He was not worrying about success. He said he was just living life, and God put people and things in his path as he kept moving forward.

Some of you are reading this and trying your hardest to make something happen. You’re trying to be romantically involved with someone the devil sent you. He beats the snot out of you while he tells you he loves you. Or you’re engaging in business with someone you can’t trust in hopes that your breakthrough has arrived.

Waiting is not easy, but it produces great fruit. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Do you want to soar? It begins by waiting and trusting God. The end result is worth the wait.

Author: Matthew Winters (The Comeback Pastor)

Born and raised in Portsmouth, VA, I eventually landed in upstate SC because when God calls I move. I gave my life to Christ in 1987 and surrendered to the call to ministry in 1997. I am a three-time graduate from Liberty University and Theological Seminary: BS in Religion (2003), the MA in Religion (Leadership concentration - 2006), and the Master of Divinity (Pastoral Ministries - 2013). I have served as a worship leader and senior pastor in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia since 1996. After experiencing a divorce, God graciously gave me my wife, Jennifer, whom I married in September 2015. Between the two of us, we have 6 children. I am the Lead/Founding Pastor of Overcomers Church in Walhalla, SC, a brand new church plant that is helping those who have been overcome by life to become Overcomers in Christ. Jennifer and I both love people and long to see them enter into a relationship with Christ and walk in the power of His Spirit. I pray that these thoughts I share will challenge and inspire you to greater heights and deeper depths for the glory of Christ.
