Sobriety, Spirituality Linked for Teens in Treatment
Increased spirituality in teens undergoing substance abuse treatment is associated with greater likelihood of abstinence. The results of the investigation were presented at the Annual Meetings  of the American Sociological Association in New York City this past August and will be featured in the spring 2014 issue of Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly.

Cigarette use Could Lead to Use of Hard Drugs
High School seniors that refuse marijuana are likely to be female and nonsmokers and may also hold strong religious beliefs. Joseph Palamar of New York University examined how teenager attitudes toward marijuana influence their thoughts on further use of other drugs. Those who used only marijuana tended to be less judgmental of further using such so-called “socially acceptable” drugs as LSD, amphetamine and ecstasy.
